We are quickly approaching a very thrilling time of year. Halloween is almost here! Chances are you may have already prepared an elaborate costume to don for the special and spooky day. Halloween isn’t just for kids, of course. Many grownups love Halloween parties, complete with creepy costumes, high-energy music and, naturally, plenty to drink.
The alcohol you might plan on consuming is just one of many important reasons to scare up a designated driver on Halloween.
Booze and “boos” don’t mix!
It truly doesn’t matter what the occasion is. Allow us to stress an obvious but ever-important point. It is unquestionably never a good idea to drink and drive. While this should go without saying, it’s worth reminding you that Halloween night is one when many young people will be out and about. If you plan on drinking at your Halloween party, it’s vital that you don’t get behind the wheel when it wraps up.
MADD Canada (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) Chief Operating Officer, Dawn Regan couldn’t put it any plainer. “If you take the risk of driving impaired, it could end in a real-life nightmare,” she warns, “You could lose your licence, lose your vehicle, face steep fines, a criminal charge or, worst of all, you could cause a crash that kills or injures someone, Enjoy your Halloween party but please leave the driving to someone sober.”
Keep your creepy costume crisp!
Aside from the vital importance of having only sober individuals take the wheel, you want your Halloween night to be one when you dress to impress. Numerous Halloween costumes are big and elaborate. This is especially true for those that require two people to pull off. We’re talking about a couple dressed up as ketchup and fries or perhaps, a monster or animal that requires both a head and a rear end.
Can you comfortably get in the driver’s seat while wearing such a costume? Make your life easy by giving yourself ample leg and seating room in the back seat. Utilize a designated driver to ensure that your spooky or silly getup isn’t wrinkled, creased, bent or otherwise compromised by the limited space of the driver’s seat.
Think of the little monsters!
If we’re being honest, there’s no one more important than all of the young ghouls and goblins who are out trick or treating on Halloween night. With so many kids on the road, it’s imperative that all drivers are completely alert and unimpaired. As well, a designated driver should ensure that his or her vision is never inhibited by a mask or makeup. This goes back to our point about driving while in costume. It’s best not to do it.
It should also be noted that, by choosing a designated driver, you set a positive example. Your friends, family and community members can be made certain that you can be depended upon to do the right thing. Keeping your neighbours safe, showcasing responsibility and practicing good decision-making are all actions to be revered. Perhaps, you will inspire others to be just as mindful and considerate. Halloween is all about having a good time. Playing it safe ensures the safety of everyone.
